Terms of service
Last updated: March 29, 2026
These terms govern access to and use of carbon-llm (the “Service”), offered as an API and web interface (dashboard). By creating an account or using the API, you agree to these terms.
1. Purpose of the Service
The Service estimates and records the carbon footprint associated with calls to large language models (LLMs), based on metadata (model, token volumes) that you send. Prompt and response content is not intended to pass through our servers for the calculation: only the information required for calculation and tracking as described in the documentation is processed.
2. Account and access
You are responsible for the confidentiality of your credentials and API keys. Any use made with your keys is deemed to be under your responsibility. You must notify us without undue delay if you suspect unauthorized use.
3. Acceptable use
- Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including data protection rules.
- Do not attempt to compromise the security or availability of the Service.
- Do not use the Service for unlawful or fraudulent activities.
4. Pricing and billing
Pricing (free, paid, subscription) is as shown on the site or in the dashboard at the time you subscribe. Payments may be processed by a third-party provider (e.g. Stripe) subject to its terms.
5. Availability and changes
We use reasonable efforts to keep the Service available. The Service may evolve (features, limits, API). We may suspend or restrict access for maintenance or force majeure, where reasonably practicable after reasonable notice.
6. Liability
The Service provides estimates and reports based on assumptions and documented methodology sources. This does not constitute legal, accounting, or certified audit advice. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to proven direct damages, excluding indirect loss or loss of revenue, except where mandatory law provides otherwise.
7. Term and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access in case of material breach of these terms, after reasonable notice where appropriate.
8. Governing law and disputes
Unless mandatory law provides otherwise, these terms are governed by the law designated by the Service operator. Competent courts are those provided by law or, where agreed, those set out in a separate contract with business customers.
